The year 2022 began with the enactment of Government Regulation No. 1/2022 on the National Registration and Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The issuance of PP 1/2022 is a regulation as an implementation of Law No. 11/2010 on Cultural Heritage and is good news for the preservation of Cultural Heritage in Indonesia. This PP regulates various in-depth aspects of Cultural Heritage preservation ranging from registration, preservation, area management, incentives and compensation, supervision, to funding.

This PP authorizes the management of Cultural Heritage to the Government and community participation, namely the managerial system of planning, implementation and evaluation related to the preservation of Cultural Heritage as a cultural resource for the benefit of society. According to Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture, “…the Government Regulation is expected to have an immediate impact on Cultural Heritage management efforts as well as being a momentum to emphasize that the concern and involvement of all parties is very important in Cultural Heritage preservation efforts”(https://kebudayaan.kemdikbud.go.id/).

What exactly is directed in this PP 1/2022? How can this PP become a framework for thinking and acting in addressing the various issues of preserving our Cultural Heritage and World Cultural Heritage? How can preservation actors such as archaeologists and architects be more involved in the management of Cultural Heritage?
