The implementation of the Study Concentration in the Master of Architecture Study Program is based on the market needs and internal potential of the existing Department of Architecture FTSP USAKTI, namely: (a) the qualifications and areas of expertise of existing human resources and; (b) fields of study that have been developed in Study Centers within the Department of Architecture.
developed in Study Centers within the Department of Architecture. Taking into account the need for further academic education for graduates of the Undergraduate Study Program in Architecture, the Study Concentration in the Master of Architecture Program is developed with 2 (two) educational streams and 4 (four) Study Concentrations or Fields of Study, namely:
Law Number 6 of 2017 concerning Architects and improvements in Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, as well as technical explanations in Government Regulation Number 15 of 2021 concerning Implementation Regulations of the Law on Architects have established the definition, scope, and performance standards for architects in carrying out their architectural practices. Based on the Decision Letter of the Indonesian Council of Architects Number 004 of 2022 concerning the Recognition of Higher Education in Architecture, graduates of the Master of Architecture at Trisakti University are recognized as one of the study programs in Indonesia that meet the Requirements for Registration of a New Application for an Architect Registration Certificate (STRA). The main goal is to regulate professionalism in the field of architecture.
The Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) stipulates that Architects recognized by law are people who are professionally qualified and hold a license/certificate to practice architecture. The practice of Architecture includes the provision of professional services related to urban planning work as well as design, construction, expansion, preservation and restoration of buildings or groups of buildings. Regarding education for architects, UIA has stipulated that the earliest competency certificate for architects is awarded after a person completes a minimum of five years of architectural basic (academic) education on an ongoing basis at an architecture school accredited by an official professional association, plus professional work experience (internship) for a minimum of two years after graduating from such basic education.
The Indonesian Architects Association (hereinafter “IAI”) is an official forum recognized by the government as an architect professional organization in Indonesia. IAI is a member of UIA so IAI is bound by agreements and decisions issued by the world-class organization. The ‘5+2’ formula set by UIA must also be applied in Indonesia in order to have equality in competition between nations. Consequently, the four-year architecture S1 education curriculum that is now in force in Indonesia needs adjustment steps to meet the five-year academic basic education required by UIA. Within this framework, the Usakti Master of Architecture Study Program in collaboration with the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) opened a concentration of Architectural Practice studies which, in addition to providing a master’s degree in engineering, also provides a reference for IAI’s recognition of the completion of academic basic education as an Architect. The collaboration is strengthened through a Cooperation Agreement between the Indonesian Architects Association of Jakarta and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, Trisakti University NUMBER 156.a/KS.00.02/USAKTI/FTSP-DEK/X/2020 and NUMBER 008/MOU/IAIJ-USAKTI/VII/2021.3

The Urban Design Study Concentration was developed with the consideration that the global built environment issues that lead to the current world symptoms are experiencing 2 urbanization tendencies in parallel, namely: (a) most of the built environment is increasingly becoming urban and; (b) urban spaces are increasingly dense due to population growth. It is predicted that by 2050 about 70% of the world’s population will live in cities. The rapid process of compaction of cities causes problems of reduced land/green areas, high levels of residential density, traffic congestion, air pollution, the provision of housing for urban residents, the high cost of urban infrastructure development and the degradation of urban space quality. Urbanization and housing will always be an important issue that requires serious attention, now and in the future. The Master of Architecture Study Program at Trisakti University takes a role in improving the quality of human resources in the urban and housing fields by opening a concentration in Urban Design studies.
The implementation of the Architectural Research Study Concentration in the Master of Architecture Study Program is a logical consequence of the curriculum concept in almost all S1 (Undergraduate) Architecture Study Programs that formulate Architecture Research as the core of education in the field of Architecture. Deepening knowledge as well as expanding knowledge related to Architecture is very necessary considering the very complex problems in Architecture. The Architectural Science Research Study Concentration allows students to conduct in-depth studies while expanding their knowledge horizons in the field of Architecture.
The Housing and Settlement Research Concentration is a concentration that focuses on in-depth research on planning, development, management, and policies related to housing and settlements. Lectures in this concentration will begin by studying Urban and Settlement theories which are the theories underlying urban planning and settlement development, as well as how to apply these theories in real contexts. It will then study Housing and Settlement Development which will discuss various aspects of housing and settlement development, including urban planning, urban design, housing financing, and environmental sustainability. In the context of housing and settlements, sustainability is an important topic, so students will also be guided to learn how to integrate sustainability principles in urban planning, housing development, and settlement management. In addition, it will also study Social and Policy Analysis, which is about how social, economic, and political factors affect housing and settlements. Including an understanding of public policies related to housing and settlements. To strengthen their research skills, students will be provided with Research Methodology insights that will provide a solid foundation in research planning, including data collection and analysis, field research, and modeling. In the final stage, students will conduct independent research in the form of a thesis as an integral part of the study program.
